Patriotic Lanterns – Cut, Fold, Glue and Decorate

These patriotic lanterns are so easy to make and create a beautiful end result.  Children can practice fine motor skills, scissor skills and visual perceptual skills while creating these fun patriotic decorations.  Hang them up for July 4th or really all Summer long!  Access the free download below.

Directions:

1. Print the following two pages on cardstock paper: first page is black and white and the second page is color. Optional: print the black and white version on red and blue paper (as pictured above).

2. Fold the paper in half lengthwise at the 1/2” dotted line.

3. Use scissors to cut along the solid, black lines.

4. Open paper back up and form into a tube with the horizontal stripes at the top and bottom. Glue closed.

5. Attach a handle at the top.

And that’s it!  Decorations for Flag Day, July 4th, Labor Day or Memorial Day are all set.

Simple Lines and Shapes Coloring

Simple Lines and Shapes Coloring Pages Freebie Picture

Coloring books are definitely the latest and greatest fad.  They are calming and encourage creativity.  I, myself have always enjoyed coloring and find it very relaxing.  The one problem with the store bought coloring pages is they can be really hard!  They take a long time to complete and they can be very intricate.  That being said, I have created some pages with bolder lines, larger spaces and just generally easier to finish.  Here are two free sample pages from the Simple Lines, Shapes and Design Coloring Pages download.  Practice prewriting strokes and shapes with these coloring pages.  The children can simply color in the different lines and shapes using crayons, markers or paints.  The dark black background helps the children to see how to stay within the lines or shapes. If mistakes are made, the errors are not as noticeable so it may help to decrease frustration in children who have difficulty coloring.  Compared to traditional coloring pages that you find in the stores, these patterns will be completed much faster and are not nearly as intricate.
